What. A. Race. The Brazil Grand Prix is always a fantastic race, and is the race to watch each year, and this year was no different. Between crash-outs, comebacks, and general craziness, this was a fantastic race.
Lando Norris took pole, right where he started, but what happened behind him was anything but expected. Here’s what we learned from the 2025 Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen is an absolute Dawg
Another year, another Max Verstappen masterclass in Brazil. After starting the race in the pit lanes following major changes to his car, Verstappen fought his way up from there to finish the race in P3.
This naturally netted him the Driver of the Day Award, but what was most impressive was his superb passing of George Russell right at the end of the race.
He did everything he could to fight his way to P2 or to Pole, but fantastic defending from Kimi Antonelli left him to settle for third. This was Kimi Antonelli’s second podium this season. The rookie has been exceptional, and to be able to keep Verstappen from passing him was extremely impressive.
While he is still behind Lando Norris for the Drivers’ Championship lead, he has been one of the most impressive drivers this season. It’s hard to overstate how good Verstappen has been this year, and this race will go down as one of his best races, which he didn’t win.
Take a bow, Ollie Bearman
Fantastic driving for Ollie Bearman, who finished in P6 today. He pushed his way through the middle of the pack to finish in the points, beating out drivers much older and with better cars than him.
Even more impressive, Haas handled the race really well, making smart pit decisions and managing Bearman’s tyres really well. This was the team’s best-ever finish at Interlagos, and that is a testament to both the driver as well as to the team. The rookie did an exceptional job all weekend and has been one of the most impressive rookies this season.
He has a bright future ahead, and it’s easy to see him earning an F1 victory in a couple of seasons.
Forgettable day for Ferrari
A double DNF for Ferrari was not what anyone had in mind. This has been a very rough weekend for the two Ferraris, starting from a tough FP1 to a fine Sprint, but it ended with this result.
In fairness, it wasn’t completely their fault. Charles Leclerc was clipped by Oscar Piastri after he was clipped by Antonelli. The same can’t be said for Lewis Hamilton, who clipped himself on the back of Franco Colapinto’s tyre, causing major damage to his front wing and floor.
A brutal day at Interlagos for the team, who have been passed by Red Bull in the Constructors’ Championship. With just three races left, the team will need to have big weekends in Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi if they want to finish in the top-3.
We still have a Drivers’ Championship battle, barely
A big win for Lando Norris puts him comfortably in first in the Drivers’ Championship. With 25 points and eight points for winning the Sprint at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Norris is very happy in first in the championship. It’s hard to see Verstappen passing him here.
However, it is still technically possible. 86 points are on the line for the winners of the next three races, the sprint in Qatar, and the fastest driver in each of those races. If Verstappen picks up all of those points and can limit Norris to fourth or below, he could make it a very interesting race to the finish.
The Vegas Grand Prix is next in two weeks, and this is always a race filled with stories. George Russell won last year’s Las Vegas Grand Prix, with Verstappen finishing fifth and Norris finishing sixth. Anything can happen, but it looks like Lando Norris will win the Drivers’ Championship this year.
