FP2 Data Drop: What We Learned
Friday practice has sharpened the F1 Fantasy Spanish GP 2026 picture, with Mercedes looking even stronger than expected. Kimi Antonelli showed strong single-lap pace by topping FP2, while George Russell impressed on heavier fuel and appears well positioned over a race distance. Ferrari’s FP2 positions may flatter their race pace, while Red Bull also showed encouraging signs. The biggest surprise was Arvid Lindblad, who displayed genuine speed in both sessions before crashing in FP2 and could emerge as a valuable budget option. Meanwhile, Lando Norris missed all of FP2 with gearbox trouble, adding uncertainty to McLaren and making them a riskier fantasy play than anticipated.

Fantasy Implications from the Paddock
- Mercedes: Russell led FP1 before Antonelli topped FP2, so the early-week Mercedes lean now has genuine practice pace behind it.
- Arvid Lindblad: P7 in FP1 and P4 in FP2 before his crash was a major surprise and suggests the Racing Bulls have legitimate pace.
- McLaren: Norris lost essentially all of FP2 to a gearbox change on a brand-new circuit, leaving him short on crucial setup and long-run data.
