FP2 Data Drop: What We Learned

Friday practice has shifted Fantasy outlook more than expected. Mercedes look every bit like the team to beat, with Kimi Antonelli topping both sessions and showing excellent pace on both qualifying laps and longer runs. McLaren were the closest challengers, particularly on race pace, with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris looking capable of fighting for the podium despite Norris losing valuable track time in FP1. Ferrari, meanwhile, appeared a step behind after Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc struggled to match the outright pace, making Mercedes the safest premium investment heading into qualifying while McLaren remain an attractive alternative.

Fantasy Implications from the Paddock

  • Mercedes: Kimi Antonelli topped both FP1 and FP2, and Mercedes looked quick on both qualifying and race pace.
  • McLaren: Lando Norris lost track time in FP1 due to hydraulic and brake issues, but both McLarens finished in the top three in FP2. The problems appear to have been resolved.
  • Ferrari: Their recent upgrades haven’t translated into outright pace in Austria—yet. Based on the first two practice sessions, Ferrari still seem to be playing catch-up behind Mercedes and McLaren.

Final Strategy: Switching back to Antonelli because Ferrari don’t seem to be as sure of a pick anymore. Hamilton doesn’t need as many points to go up in price due to Antonelli’s last DNF, but the points trade-off isn’t worth it here.
